Words in communication have many purposes, and it is often said that they are not enough to express and prove one's love, affection, loyalty and all the feelings one can have for someone or something. In this expression of feelings, affectionate names stand out. In the Croatian language, they are present in various examples and are often used. From everyday communication to pop music, it is possible to find impressionable and interesting examples. Dragi, mala, zlato moje, srećo – are some examples of affectionate names that are well known to Croatian speakers. Their use is widespread and certainly unavoidable in affectionate address in the language of literature, music, film or in informal communication. In this paper, affectionate names are observed in the language of Croatian pop music, more precisely in the language of the music of The Split Festival. The aim of this study is to present the affectionate names that appear in the lyrics of The Split Festival songs from 1962. to 1992. The main focus is on the appearance of affectionate names in individual songs, a dictionary of one-word affectionate names, as well as their distribution, breakdown and description. From all this, it is evident which affectionate names appear most often, which are almost always repeated, and to whom the authors are addressing in the songs. All of this suggests that affectionate names often appear and are indispensable in the lyrics of the songs of The Split Festival, but also in the language of Croatian pop music as part of Croatian culture and its associated identity.
