Reading is one of the most widespread and complex language skills. In addition to a large number of benefits that it brings to the individual, properly acquired reading skills represent the basis of further learning and literacy. Given the importance of this topic, the conducted study examined the attitudes and experiences of parents, educators and teachers in relation to reading using the qualitative method of focus groups. The study included 22 participants who were divided into three focus groups. The first group consisted of educators, second one of parents and the third one of teachers. Participants were asked questions related to their personal experiences with reading and ways in which they encourage these skills in their children. The obtained results indicate that most participants have a positive attitude towards reading, and they also consider it very beneficial for themselves and their children. Moreover, the majority of participants is well informed when it comes to reading and strategies of its acquisition. They share an opinion that it is not necessary for the children to know how to read before starting school. However, they identified problems regarding cooperation and insufficient communication of parents with educators and teachers. Based on the conducted study it can be concluded that the participants are well aware of the importance of reading in everyday life, as well as the need to encourage love towards reading in children from an early age. With an increasing number of practical workshops and lectures, all three groups of participants will certainly develop positive skills of encouraging pre-reading and reading skills in children, resulting in an increase in literacy among children and reduction of their difficulties concerning reading.
