The French Revolution of 1789 marked the end of a series of processes that would lead to the awakening of national consciousness during the "long 19th century." In the middle of the century there was a kind of peak of renaissance movements. Following the example of other parts of Europe, Croatian intellectuals started a search for greater independence and freedom within the Habsburg Monarchy. During the Croatian National Revival, there was a so-called revival in art as well. Applied arts in the Revival appear primarily in fashion, but also in inventory. Fashion practically became an important pati of the examination of the national consciousness. Napoleon's collapse also led to a popularization ofbidemers. Bidemayer, a style that exudes simplicity and sophistication, actually represents the style of some neglected citizenry. Considering the above stated, the homes of the bourgeoisie become more and more decorated with bidemayer furniture over time. A particularly notable figure in the bidemayer period was Josef Danhauser who popularized furniture catalogs. Danhauser gives special attention to the importance of preserving and beautifying the wood itself. Scenes of everyday scenarios from nature and rural communities are used in painting. Nature becomes the link between man and his religion, and is studied in a particular religious context. Biedermeier remained popular in Europe until 1848, and in Croatia until 1859 until the fali of Bach's absolutism. Today, a special place in the presentation of Biedemayer is the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, which has a permanent exhibition ofBiedermeier porcelain, furniture and furnishings.
