Although civil society is difficult to define, it is mostly understood as a protective barrier between an individual and their family from the government. The evolution and condition of the Croatian civil society are especially interesting because of the political transformation of Croatia in the recent times. The civil society is inherently associated with volunteers. Through voluntary and free work, volunteers improve and strenghten the community. Their tendency to volunteer is associated with a set of values that also manifest in the way they spend their free time. Social media, in addition to spending free time, can also serve as a tool for social activism. This research was conducted in July and August of 2021. with young volunteers of Split. They were sent an online survey which aimed to research their experiences with volunteering and the role of online activism. Statistical analysis has shown that the participants of this research most often volunteered for a non-profit organization on a weekly basis to improve their community. They mostly valued freedom and equality between all social groups. They were mostly satisfied with the organization they volunteered for. Although the organization they volunteered for had a profile on social media, the volunteers were not prone to posting or sharing content. There were differences between sexes when it came to some forms of volunteering, motivations to volunteer, volunteer's values and sharing content on Instagram.
