Abstract (english) This paper explores the impact of digital games on children, focusing on parental perceptions and developmental aspects. Given the widespread use of digital games, the research aims to understand their influence on child development and behavior. The first part of the paper analyzes the evolution of digital games as a medium that not only entertains but also educates and connects people. It examines how games affect skill development, creativity, and communication in children, as well as how the shift from traditional to digital games influences their daily lives. The second part of the paper is based on a survey conducted among parents in Split, which investigates various aspects of integrating digital games into children's lives. The study analyzed parental approaches to upbringing in the context of digital games, the quality of games, and changes in children's behavior and mood after gameplay. Special attention was given to safety risks and parental awareness of these risks, as well as general parental attitudes towards the impact of digital games on children. The research focuses on four key questions: the impact of digital games on children's cognitive development and social-emotional skills, the positive and negative aspects of gameplay, and the factors influencing parental attitudes toward the appropriateness and frequency of play. The survey included 100 parents of preschool children, and the results revealed polarized views on the effects of digital games. While educational games were recognized as beneficial for development, violent games were linked to negative outcomes. Parents also highlighted the need for greater education on game content and the use of safety tools. In conclusion, digital games have both positive and negative effects on children. The key to successful integration lies in setting clear rules, educating about safety, and promoting a balance between digital and physical activities. A responsible approach can maximize the benefits and minimize the risks associated with digital games, ensuring comprehensive and healthy development for children.
