Abstract | Ova diplomska radnja donosi pregled arhitektonskog sloja ranokršćanske Salone i njenog šireg područja. |
Abstract (english) | This master thesis brings a review of architectual layer of early-Christian city of Salona and its wider area. Analysing historical sources and considerating available literature provided by arceological research, major early-Christian remains that followed the emergence of Christianity in the city of Salona strive to be explained. Starting with episcopal center, as the religious center of former Salona, the life of the early Christian community is examined. First buildings used by christian community for religious purpose were large halls some of which later developed into the first oratorio. A further proces of building a christian city is well documented in inscriptions of bishop builder that were found, which, in the first place, refers to building of two episcopal basilicas gemini. From the complexity of building episcopal center, construction is visible in stages, as confirmed by research. Salona researchers were particulary interested in construction of baptistery with baptismal font, which has changed its form through these upgrades, to be reconstructed today by blades in the cross form. With the increasing number of Christians in the city, it was necessary to construct new basilicas inside and outside the city walls. Outside the city walls should be mentioned basilicas in the cemeteries, which are considered as places of particular importance, that is as places of the cult of martyrs as it was the case with the relics of St. Domnio on Manastirine and St. Astoria on Kapljuč. After the end of the persecution of Christians, this part of Salona was never later rebulid, and no new structures were ever built on these remains. This, however, can not be said for early-Christian basilicas in the wider area of Salona, which were not fully explored because they had early medieval upgrades. In this context, the sites discussed in this paper, namely Šuplja crkva and Gradina, are considered as important sites of medieval Croatian state, but also as valuable early-Christian sites the significance of which should be confirmed by further research. |
