Abstract
This master’s thesis provides a contrastive analysis of subtitles and the dubbed version of one of the most successful animated movies, The Lion King (1994). The emphasis was on detecting differences and similarities between two versions of Croatian translation – subtitled and dubbed version – with the use of contrastive analysis and establishing which translation procedures are mostly used in the process of translation for each version. The thesis consists of a theoretical part in which information about contrastive analysis, two of the most common types of audiovisual translation (subtitling and dubbing), and a short synopsis of the animated movie The Lion King are provided. In the practical part, a contrastive analysis of the subtitled and dubbed version of the Croatian translation of The Lion King is conducted, divided into three categories: Idioms and phrases, Wordplay, and Other (including different types of examples). The results of the analysis showed that equivalence and literal translation are two of the most often used translation procedures and that there are numerous differences between the translation processes used for each version.

Ovaj diplomski rad prikazuje kontrastivnu analizu titlova i sinkronizacije jednog od najuspješnijih animiranih filmova svih vremena Kralj lavova (1994). Naglasak je stavljen na pronalaženje razlika i sličnosti između titlovane i sinkronizirane verzije hrvatskog prijevoda pomoću kontrastivne analize i utvrđivanje koje se prevoditeljske procedure najčešće koriste u procesu prevođenja za svaku verziju. Rad se sastoji od teoretskog dijela koji sadržava objašnjenja kontrastivne analize, dvije najpopularnije vrste audiovizualnog prijevoda (titlovanje i sinkroniziranje), i kratak sadržaj o radnji animiranog filma Kralj lavova. U praktičnom dijelu provedena je kontrastivna analiza titlovane i sinkronizirane verzije hrvatskog prijevoda Kralja lavova podijeljena u tri kategorije: Idiomi i izrazi, Igra riječi i Ostalo (kategorija koja uključuje različite vrste primjera). Rezultati predstavljene analize pokazali su da su najčešće prevoditeljske procedure ekvivalencija i doslovan prijevod, ali i da postoje mnoge razlike u procesu prevođenja ovisno o verziji za koju se prevodi
