Along with work, leisure time has been an important part of human life since the beginning of the development of human civilization. Leisure time is time freed from obligations in which a person can devote himself to activities of his own choice. It is especially important for young people, considering that they have a large amount of leisure time in which they can develop their skills, discover talents and build their identity. During adolescence, young people are exposed to numerous challenges and changes that can be a source of stress for them, so it is important how they spend their leisure time because it can help them cope with stress. The aim of this research was to examine the connection between leisure time and stress levels among the students of the city of Sinj. A total of 343 students of grammar schools and vocational schools in the area of Sinj participated in the research. The results of the research show that young people in the area of Sinj spend their leisure time almost the same as young people in the rest of the Republic of Croatia, so in their leisure time they hang out with friends, use social networks, listen to music and walk, and participate least in cultural activities. It was shown that young people from rural areas watch more television and play sports significantly less than young people from urban areas, which indicates weaker opportunities for young people in rural areas. Students are exposed to a moderate level of stress. In conclusion, it was shown that there is a slight connection between leisure time and the level of stress among students, from which comes the importance of cooperation between families, schools and the local community in creating opportunities for the active and quality use of young people's leisure time.
